We tend to make light of whatever legalistic tendencies we recognize in ourselves because we're actually very comfortable with them. We confess legalistic temptations and tendencies with casualness, and we think, It's really no big deal. That would change if we recognized and confessed those tendencies for what they really are--if in regard to some legalistic action or attitude we honestly admitted, 'What this means is that I'm pursuing self-atonement, because I want self-glorification, and ultimately it's all for the purpose of self-worship.'
