Care to expound a bit on what the author is presenting here? I am pretty sure I grasp his idea, but I think a wider context would help.

A cold heart subtly seeks to cover over its own coldness in prayer by compensating with length of prayer. Quantity atones for quality.

I figured it was along those lines. What bizzare creatures we are who we who would think that our many words make up the value of our prayers, as opposed to Christ' blood.
