Last night after winning the NBA championship, Kevin Garnett expressed what every human heart is after when he said, twice in a row, through tears, "I'm certified."Kevin, well done this season. I love your intensity. It images God. In the months ahead, though, the joy that that ring promised will inexplicably fade and slip through your fingers (as Tom Brady confessed). It is a fleeting approval. The only lasting certification--approval--acceptance--validation--knowing we're ok--comes not from any human certification but from God's, freely available in Christ. Horizontal approval never lasts. Vertical approval never fades. Thanks for reminding me of the magnitude of the gospel.
